Our First-Hand Experience

Australia surprised us with how varied and beautiful the country felt. Instead of the dry, arid landscape many people imagine, this property had natural forests, rolling grassy hills, creek beds, and pockets of rainforest tucked into the valleys.

We saw an impressive number of animals, including red stag, rusa, axis, sambar, blackbuck, and water buffalo. The habitat is well managed, the animals are thriving, and the hunting has a true sense of adventure without feeling overwhelming.

What made the trip even more memorable was the touring we experienced. Sydney and Brisbane were picturesque with wonderful food, quaint walks, and local experiences. Along the coast, Noosa and the surrounding areas are the beach towns of your dreams: boutique shopping, gorgeous beaches, and fresh seafood at every turn.

Australia Big Game & Touring Experience

Australia brings together exciting big game hunting and unforgettable touring in a way that works flawlessly for everyone. In southeast Queensland, hunters can pursue red stag, rusa deer, sambar, fallow, axis, blackbuck, water buffalo, and more, while the rest of the group can enjoy wildlife encounters, Brisbane, Australia Zoo, coastal towns, beaches, and other classic Australia experiences before or after the hunt.

The hunting takes place in varied, scenic country with timbered hills, national forest, creek beds, open pockets, and rolling terrain. Each hunt can be shaped around the hunter’s ability, goals, and preferred pace, creating a true sense of adventure without feeling overwhelming.

Beyond the hunt, Australia gives non-hunting guests plenty to look forward to. Families can visit the Australia Zoo, see koalas, kangaroos, wombats, and crocodiles, explore Brisbane or Sydney, spend time along the coast, snorkel or dive the Great Barrier Reef, enjoy wine country, or add guided cultural experiences.

Family Expeditions helps bring the full trip together, arranging the hunting stay, transfers, firearm details, touring extensions, and travel flow so your group can enjoy Australia without having to piece it all together on your own.

Hunting

Your Australia Big Game Hunting Experience

This destination offers access to a remarkable variety of game in southeast Queensland. The property includes a private estate surrounded by 40,000 hectares of national forest, creating a lightly pressured hunting environment with strong habitat, elevation changes, and plenty of wildlife.

Hunts can be shaped around the hunter’s style, experience, and ability. Some days may involve spot-and-stalk hunting through timbered hills and creek beds, while others may be more safari-style by vehicle. The goal is always a safe, respectful hunt for a mature animal.

Species You Can Pursue

Hunters may pursue up to twelve species, including:

  • Red stag
  • Javan rusa
  • Moluccan rusa
  • Sambar
  • Fallow
  • Axis
  • Hog deer
  • Blackbuck
  • Water buffalo, off site
  • Banteng, off site

The outfitter has a long reputation for trophy quality, selective harvest, and strong herd management. Their operation has been established since 1982 and has produced more SCI Top 10 trophies than any other Australian outfitter.

What to Expect

Every hunt is fully guided and includes daily support in the field, transport, assistance with field care, and personalized instruction. Whether you are an experienced international hunter or taking your first hunting trip abroad, the team helps with preparation, logistics, and guidance throughout the experience.

The hunting can be active, but it is also flexible. The terrain, schedule, and approach can be adjusted to your goals, comfort level, and the species you are pursuing.

Seasons

Hunting is available year-round because different deer species shed their antlers at different times. However, the most popular time to hunt is April through September, when all species can generally be hunted.

Activities

Touring Highlights That Pair Perfectly with Your Hunt:

Australia Zoo
A great family-friendly addition before or after the hunt, Steve Irwin’s Australia Zoo gives guests the chance to see koalas, kangaroos, wombats, crocodiles, and other iconic Australian wildlife. It is an easy way to build this classic Australia experience into the trip.

Brisbane
Most guests fly through Brisbane, making it a natural place to begin or end the itinerary. Spend time enjoying the riverfront, restaurants, shopping, cultural stops, and easy city touring before heading into the mountains.

Beach Communities
Australia’s coast is one of the best ways to round out the trip for non-hunters. Depending on your itinerary, beach time can include relaxed coastal towns, quaint shopping areas, beautiful beaches, wildlife viewing, and even whale-watching opportunities in season.

Great Barrier Reef
For families or couples who want to extend the trip, the Great Barrier Reef can be added before or after the hunt. Snorkeling, diving, boating, and island stays make this one of Australia’s most memorable touring options.

Sydney
Sydney is a wonderful extension for travelers who want iconic city touring. The Opera House, harbor, restaurants, shopping, and coastal scenery make it a strong addition for non-hunters or anyone wanting a broader Australia itinerary.

Wildlife Viewing on Property
Even without leaving the lodge area, guests may see kangaroos, koalas, wallabies, emus, and colorful birdlife. This gives observers and children a meaningful way to enjoy the land while hunters are in the field.

Wine Country & Gourmet Touring
Australia’s wine regions can be added as a relaxing extension, with vineyard tastings, regional meals, and countryside touring built around your group’s pace.

Aboriginal Culture
Guided Aboriginal cultural experiences can add depth to the itinerary, helping travelers better understand the history, stories, and traditions connected to the land.

New Zealand Extension
For travelers with more time, New Zealand is only about a four-hour flight away and can be paired beautifully with Australia for additional hunting, touring, or both.

Length of Stay / Itinerary

Every Australia Big Game Hunting and Touring itinerary is customized around your hunting goals, species list, touring interests, and group pace. Depending on how many species you want to pursue, most hunts may be built around a 3-, 4-, or 5-day hunting stay.
