Our First-Hand Experience

As soon as we walked through the doors and saw the three-generation family—grandfather, father, and son—gathered at the table to welcome us, we knew this lodge was something special. With roots dating back to 1912 and public hunting introduced in 1997, their pride in the land and passion for sharing it were clear from the start.

From Stacy preparing delicious home-cooked meals in the kitchen to Luke guiding hunts with genuine enthusiasm, every part of the experience is hands-on and deeply personal. It’s rare to see a property so completely run by family, and that heart shines through in every interaction.

We had a blast exploring the rolling hills, ponds, and hidden corners of the property by ATV, taking in the beautiful terrain. The hunting is excellent—made even better by fun-loving guides who quickly feel like part of the group. Add in a comfortable, welcoming lodge, and this destination felt like home from the moment we arrived.

If you’re searching for the best pheasant hunt in South Dakota—whether for your family, a father/son adventure, or a group of friends—this ranch delivers. Established in 1912 and still family-owned today, this incredible property offers both wild and preserve pheasant hunting across more than 17,000 acres of premier upland habitat. With 90% of the land in a single block and hunting grounds right outside the lodge, there’s no time wasted driving between fields.

What truly sets this lodge apart is the heart behind it. The same family that built the ranch is still involved in every part of the experience—from guiding your hunt through creek bottoms, rolling hills, tree lines, CRP fields, and crop fields to preparing meals and sharing stories around the fire. It’s authentic, personal, and unforgettable.

This is far more than a typical South Dakota pheasant lodge. It’s a fully guided, high-volume, high-hospitality experience perfect for creating lifelong memories—whether you’re planning a multi-generational trip, hosting clients, or introducing a child or spouse to the thrill of upland hunting.

Accommodations & Meals

In 2022, this operation took things to another level with the opening of a custom 13,000-square-foot lodge—built for serious hunters who enjoy their creature comforts. Here’s what you can expect:

  • 12 double-occupancy rooms with private baths

  • 1 private suite with a kitchenette and fireplace

  • Massive Great Room with a full bar, leather seating, TVs, and fireplace

  • Commercial kitchen, dining area, and locker-equipped mudroom

  • Game Room featuring:

    • Golf simulator, corn hole, poker tables, pool, shuffleboard, air hockey, big screens

    • Rifle & pistol range with steel targets out to 1,000 yards

    • 10 trap throwers for sharpening your shooting skills

    • Big screen TV’s

This is more than just a place to stay—it’s a pheasant lodge where memories are made.

Hunting

This welcoming, family-owned lodge offers one of the most complete guided pheasant hunting experiences in South Dakota, blending comfort with adventure. Whether you’re introducing a child or spouse to upland hunting, reconnecting with lifelong friends, or planning a multi-generational trip, this is the perfect setting for memory-making.

You’ll hunt with experienced guides and well-trained dogs across stunning terrain that includes rolling hills, tree-lined draws, and wide-open fields. Choose from:

  • Preserve Hunts – 2,500 acres with a generous 15-bird daily limit

  • Wild Bird Hunts – Hunt the rest of the ranch for up to 3 wild roosters a day

No group is too small or too large—whether you’re hunting one-on-one with a guide or traveling with a group of 20, your time in the field is private and never combined with other guests. And with the lodge just steps from the fields, there’s no need for long drives—you can start your hunt right out the back door.

All birds are professionally cleaned, packaged, and frozen for you—either for pickup at the end of your stay or shipped directly to your home.

A Typical Hunting Day

Trips are flexible based on your group’s preferences and the length of your stay, but most days follow a relaxed and enjoyable rhythm:

  • 6:30 AM – Fresh coffee is ready

  • 8:00 AM – A hearty, home-cooked breakfast fuels the morning

  • 9:00 AM – Safety talk and warm-up at the shooting range

  • 10:00 AM – Head into the field for your pheasant hunt

  • 1:00 PM – Break for lunch (often a picnic in the field)

  • 3:30 PM – Return to the lodge and relax

  • 3:45 PM – Hors d’oeuvres and cocktails begin

  • 6:30 PM – Dinner is served with drinks and conversation

Whether you’re walking alongside your child for their first pheasant flush or reliving past hunts with old friends, this lodge offers the kind of meaningful, high-quality experiences that bring people closer together.

Activities

After the day’s hunt is complete and the birds are packed away, the fun doesn’t stop. This lodge is designed for connection, relaxation, and shared memories—with activities the whole family or group will enjoy.

  • Try your hand at trap shooting or long-range rifle and pistol targets

  • Unwind in the game room with a olf simulator, corn hole, poker tables, pool, shuffleboard, air hockey, and big screens

  • Enjoy social hour with cocktails, cigars (for those who wish), and stories around the firepit
